What an honor and blessing it is to be a staff member at WCA! I am convinced that separating God from education results in an incomplete academic program. Jesus set a pattern for us as educators to help each child grow intellectually, physically, and in relationship with God and peers. The most important thing we can do is help the children with whom we live and work to know the love of God who knows us fully and is as close as breath itself.
I have a BA in Elementary and Special Education, a Master's Degree in Learning Disabilities, and a Professional Teaching Certificate from the state of Michigan. After teaching sixth grade at WCA for a few years, God called me to fill a need here using my special education training. As Resource Administrator, I test incoming students as well as those having a variety of challenges in class, working with the latter as needed in a tutorial capacity.
Since 2002, WCA has taken dramatic steps toward meeting the needs of particularly challenged learners. The powerful program employed by WCA to help these students is one designed by the National Institute for Learning Development (NILD). I am a certified Educational Therapist and the Program Coordinator for the NILD Discovery Center here at WCA. This method is proven to enable students to ultimately become independent learners and successful students by intentionally strengthening their deficit areas through individualized educational therapy. God's hand was surely in the development of this program, and without Him my work would be ineffective.
