Clarissa Grimes Named National Merit Semifinalist
Washtenaw Christian Academy senior Clarissa Grimes, a resident of Saline, has been named a semifinalist in the 2010 National Merit Scholarship Program. Approximately 16,000 seniors across the United States have been named as Semifinalists in the 55th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. This academically talented group of high school seniors has an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 8,200 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $36 million that will be offered next spring.
The NMSC, a not-for-profit organization that operates without government assistance, was established in 1955 specifically to conduct the annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Scholarships are underwritten by NMSC with its own funds and approximately 500 business organizations and higher education institutions that encourage the NMSC's goals of honoring the nation's scholastic champions and encouraging the pursuit of academic excellence. National Merit Scholarship winners of 2010 will be announced beginning in April 2010.
