Washtenaw Christian Academy is seeking a Secondary Spanish Teacher who is passionate about language learning and committed to helping students develop communication skills, cultural understanding, and confidence in Spanish within a Christ-centered educational environment. The ideal candidate will have a love for God, a love for students, and a desire to engage learners through dynamic, interactive language instruction.
Position Title: Secondary Spanish Teacher
Location: Washtenaw Christian Academy
Schedule: Full-time (aligned with school calendar)
Reports to: Secondary Principal
Responsibilities
Instructional Duties
- Teach Spanish courses for middle and/or high school students (beginning through advanced levels as assigned)
- Plan and deliver engaging, proficiency-based instruction in listening, speaking, reading, and writing
- Create an immersive classroom environment that encourages active use of the Spanish language
- Incorporate cultural understanding from Spanish-speaking countries in instruction
- Differentiate lessons to meet a range of student proficiency levels
- Assess student progress through formative and summative assessments
- Maintain accurate records of student performance and communicate with families as needed
- Integrate a biblical worldview into instruction in appropriate and meaningful ways
- Use a variety of instructional strategies to support language acquisition
Classroom & School Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain a structured, encouraging, and language-rich classroom environment
- Foster student confidence and participation in speaking Spanish
- Build positive relationships with students that support academic and personal growth
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events
- Support school-wide initiatives, chapel, and student life activities as needed
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress and needs
Qualifications
- Commitment to a personal and growing relationship with Jesus Christ
- Strong fluency in Spanish (native or near-native proficiency preferred)
- Ability to teach Spanish clearly and effectively to secondary students at varying levels
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills
- Ability to create engaging, interactive, and student-centered lessons
- Excellent communication and relational skills with students, parents, and staff
- Alignment with the mission and values of Washtenaw Christian Academy
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Spanish, Education, or related field (required)
- Valid teaching certification (preferred or required depending on assignment)
- Experience teaching Spanish at the secondary level (preferred)
