Washtenaw Christian Academy is seeking a Christ-centered, enthusiastic, and skilled Music Teacher to inspire students through music education while fostering creativity, excellence, and worship. The Music Teacher is responsible for developing and delivering an engaging music program that helps students grow in musical knowledge, performance skills, and appreciation for the arts from a biblical worldview.
This role includes classroom instruction, preparation for performances and programs, and collaboration with faculty and administration to support the mission of the school. The ideal candidate will cultivate a positive learning environment where students are encouraged to use their God-given gifts for His glory.
Position Title: Music Teacher
Location: Washtenaw Christian Academy
Schedule: Full-time (aligned with school calendar)
Reports to: Principal
Key Responsibilities
Music Instruction
- Plan and deliver engaging music lessons aligned with school objectives and grade-level expectations
- Teach foundational music concepts, including rhythm, melody, harmony, notation, music history, and appreciation
- Introduce students to a variety of musical styles, instruments, and performance opportunities
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs and abilities of diverse learners
- Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback
Performance & Program Leadership
- Plan, organize, and direct student performances, concerts, chapel music, and special programs
- Prepare students for Christmas programs, spring concerts, and other school events as assigned
- Coordinate rehearsals and performance schedules
- Collaborate with administration and staff regarding program logistics and event planning
Classroom Management & Student Development
- Establish a positive, organized, and engaging classroom environment
- Encourage student participation, creativity, confidence, and teamwork
- Promote respect, responsibility, and Christ-like behavior
- Build positive relationships with students while supporting their academic, social, and spiritual growth
Spiritual Formation
- Integrate biblical truth and a Christian worldview into music instruction
- Encourage students to view music as a gift from God that can be used for worship and service
- Model Christ-like character and professionalism in all interactions
Collaboration & Communication
- Work collaboratively with teachers, staff, and administration
- Communicate professionally and graciously with students, parents, and colleagues
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development opportunities, and school events as requested
- Support the broader mission and culture of Washtenaw Christian Academy
Required Qualifications
- Commitment to a personal and growing relationship with Jesus Christ
- Alignment with the mission and values of Washtenaw Christian Academy
- Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Music, or a related field preferred
- Experience teaching music in a classroom setting preferred
- Strong musical knowledge and performance skills
- Ability to direct and lead student musical performances
- Excellent communication, organization, and classroom management skills
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, move, and actively instruct throughout the school day
- Ability to lift and move musical equipment and classroom materials up to 25 pounds
- Ability to lead rehearsals and performances both indoors and outdoors as needed
