Washtenaw Christian Academy is seeking Christ-centered, caring, and dependable Preschool Assistant Teachers to support our preschool program. We are hiring both full-time and part-time team members who are passionate about creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment where young children can grow academically, socially, emotionally, physically, and spiritually.

Working alongside the Lead Preschool Teacher, Preschool Assistant Teachers play a vital role in supporting daily classroom instruction, caring for students, and helping establish a positive classroom culture rooted in biblical truth. The ideal candidate enjoys working with young children, collaborates well with others, and desires to help lay a strong foundation for lifelong learning and faith.

Position Title: Preschool Assistant Teacher

Location: Washtenaw Christian Academy

Schedule: Full-time and Part-time positions available

Reports to: Lead Preschool Teacher, Preschool Director

Key Responsibilities

Classroom Support

  • Assist the Lead Preschool Teacher in implementing developmentally appropriate lessons and activities.
  • Support daily classroom routines, including learning centers, meals, rest time, outdoor play, and transitions.
  • Prepare classroom materials and learning resources as directed.
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming classroom environment.
  • Assist with classroom supervision to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.

Student Care & Development

  • Build positive, nurturing relationships with students.
  • Encourage children’s academic, social, emotional, physical, and spiritual development.
  • Provide individualized support based on students’ developmental needs and learning styles.
  • Reinforce positive behavior and model kindness, patience, and respect.
  • Observe student progress and communicate relevant information to the Lead Preschool Teacher.

Health & Safety

  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all students by following school policies and state licensing requirements.
  • Assist with snacks, meals, restroom routines, and other daily care needs as appropriate.
  • Maintain appropriate supervision of students at all times.
  • Help keep classrooms, materials, and play areas clean and safe.

Spiritual Formation

  • Integrate biblical truth and a Christian worldview into daily interactions with students.
  • Encourage children to recognize God’s love and care through age-appropriate conversations and activities.
  • Model Christ-like character, servant leadership, and professionalism.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work collaboratively with the Lead Preschool Teacher, fellow staff members, and administration.
  • Communicate professionally and graciously with families and colleagues.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development opportunities, and school events as requested.
  • Support the mission and culture of Washtenaw Christian Academy.

Required Qualifications

  • Commitment to a personal and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Alignment with the mission and values of Washtenaw Christian Academy.
  • High school diploma required; coursework or experience in Early Childhood Education preferred.
  • Previous experience working with preschool-aged children in a classroom or childcare setting preferred.
  • Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Dependable, patient, flexible, and enthusiastic about working with young children.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and actively engage with children throughout the school day.
  • Ability to lift and carry children or classroom materials up to 30 pounds as needed.
  • Ability to supervise students indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.

Spiritual Expectations

  • Model Christ-like character and professionalism in all interactions.
  • Support the spiritual mission of the school through daily service, mentorship, and care for students.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to Christian education and helping young children develop a foundation of faith.
