Facilities Manager

Washtenaw Christian Academy is seeking a Christ-centered, organized, and proactive Facilities Manager to lead the maintenance, operations, and stewardship of the school’s campus and facilities. The Facilities Manager is responsible for ensuring that all buildings, grounds, and equipment are safe, functional, welcoming, and well-maintained in support of the school’s mission.

This role provides leadership and oversight for the Facilities Team, manages contractors and vendors, coordinates facility rentals and event support, oversees maintenance and improvement projects, and works closely with school leadership to plan for the long-term care and development of campus facilities.

This is a hands-on leadership position that combines strategic oversight with active participation in the daily maintenance and custodial needs of the campus. The Facilities Manager is expected to lead by example, regularly performing maintenance and custodial tasks alongside the Facilities Team as needed.

Reports to: Head of School

Key Responsibilities

Facilities Leadership & Team Management

  • Provide leadership, supervision, and support for the Facilities Team
  • Establish priorities, assign work, and ensure completion of maintenance and custodial responsibilities
  • Foster a culture of excellence, teamwork, stewardship, and servant leadership
  • Coordinate staffing needs and schedules for facilities personnel
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching and accountability

Campus Maintenance & Operations

  • Perform routine maintenance and custodial duties as needed, including cleaning, setup, repairs, and grounds maintenance
  • Assist with daily custodial responsibilities to ensure facilities remain clean, safe, and welcoming
  • Lead by example through active participation in the work of maintaining the campus
  • Provide coverage for facilities and custodial team members when necessary
  • Oversee the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of all school buildings, grounds, equipment, and systems
  • Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules and procedures
  • Respond to facility-related issues and emergencies in a timely manner
  • Maintain compliance with applicable safety regulations and inspection requirements

Contractor & Vendor Management

  • Coordinate and oversee contractors, service providers, and maintenance vendors
  • Obtain quotes and recommendations for repairs, projects, and facility improvements
  • Monitor contractor performance and ensure work is completed according to expectations

Event & Facility Support

  • Oversee facility setup and teardown for school events, programs, and community activities
  • Manage facility rental logistics and coordinate support needs
  • Ensure campus spaces are prepared appropriately for daily operations and special events

Budgeting & Capital Planning

  • Work closely with the Head of School and Finance Director to develop and manage facilities budgets
  • Monitor facility-related expenditures and recommend cost-effective solutions
  • Identify and prioritize capital improvement projects and long-term maintenance needs
  • Assist in planning and implementing major facility improvement initiatives

Collaboration & Communication

  • Collaborate effectively with administration, faculty, staff, volunteers, and families
  • Communicate professionally with contractors, vendors, and members of the school community
  • Participate in leadership meetings and strategic planning efforts as requested
Required Qualifications

  • Experience in facilities management, maintenance leadership, construction management, or a related field
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and supervise a team
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and project management skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and work independently
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • High level of integrity, initiative, and attention to detail
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and move throughout campus for extended periods
  • Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to perform and oversee physical facility-related tasks as needed
