Kindergarten or Young 5s Student Support Paraprofessional

Washtenaw Christian Academy is seeking a caring, dependable, and Christ-centered Kindergarten Student Support Paraprofessional to provide individualized support to a young 5s or kindergarten student throughout the school day. The ideal candidate has a love for young children, a servant-hearted attitude, and a desire to help a student grow academically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually.

This role works closely with classroom teachers, support staff, and the student’s family to help the student successfully participate in classroom learning and activities, develop independence, build positive peer relationships, and thrive within the school community. The successful candidate will partner closely with the student’s family and school staff to provide consistent support that promotes growth, confidence, and success in the classroom setting.

Position Title: Kindergarten or Young 5s Student Support Paraprofessional
Location: Washtenaw Christian Academy
Schedule: Full-time (aligned with school calendar)
Reports to: Elementary Principal and Kindergarten Teacher

Key Responsibilities

Student Support

  • Provide individualized academic, behavioral, and social support throughout the school day
  • Assist the student in successfully participating in classroom instruction, activities, and routines
  • Reinforce teacher-directed instruction and learning objectives
  • Support the development of communication, self-regulation, organization, and independence skills
  • Implement accommodations, strategies, and support plans as directed by teachers and school staff
  • Support the student in developing positive peer relationships and meaningful social interactions

Classroom Support

  • Assist with classroom instruction during whole-group, small-group, and individual learning activities
  • Help maintain classroom organization, routines, and daily procedures
  • Prepare classroom materials and learning resources as directed
  • Support a positive, orderly, and engaging learning environment

Student Care & Supervision

  • Help maintain a safe, structured, and caring classroom environment
  • Accompany and support the student during transitions, recess, lunch, specials, field trips, and other school activities as needed
  • Encourage responsibility, positive behavior, and appropriate social interactions
  • Foster increasing independence and age-appropriate classroom habits

Spiritual & Social Development

  • Model Christ-like attitudes and interactions throughout the school day
  • Support the integration of biblical values and Christian character development
  • Build a positive, trusting, and encouraging relationship with the student
  • Encourage growth in compassion, responsibility, perseverance, and respect for others

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, administration, and the student’s parents
  • Participate in staff meetings, training opportunities, and school events as requested
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and support plans
Required Qualifications

  • Strong communication, teamwork, patience, and organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
  • Ability to provide consistent, compassionate support while fostering student independence
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience working with children in a classroom, childcare, or educational support setting
  • Experience providing one-on-one support for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or other developmental differences
  • Familiarity with behavior support strategies, sensory needs, and individualized accommodations
  • Training or coursework related to special education, psychology, child development, or a related field
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the school day
  • Ability to assist a young child with classroom activities, transitions, and routines
  • Ability to respond appropriately to student needs in a dynamic classroom environment
  • Occasional lifting of classroom materials and supplies up to 25 pounds
