Elementary Principal-Curriculum Director

The Elementary Principal-Curriculum Director is a full time, year round position that reports to the Head of School. As the Elementary Principal this position is responsible for supervising the academic, student, and teacher programs for grades K-6. As the Curriculum Director this position works closely with the Secondary Principal in order to oversee the curriculum program of grades K-12.
 

Key aspects of this position include
  • Supervise elementary teachers in order to ensure effective classroom instruction and management.
  • Oversee student discipline for elementary students.
  • Cultivate an atmosphere and culture of spiritual growth for elementary faculty and students (weekly chapel, faculty prayer times, and a discipleship/mentoring approach to teacher development).
  • Arrange substitute teachers for elementary classes.
  • Cooperate with the Head of School to interview potential new elementary faculty members and make staffing recommendations.
  • Conduct observations of elementary faculty and classrooms as part of an ongoing and annual process of evaluation and teacher development.
  • Manage and work with lead teachers on the elementary faculty to build staff culture, cohesiveness, and elementary teacher duty schedule.
  • Communicate consistently and effectively with elementary teachers, parents, and administration regarding elementary school concerns and events. 
  • Work closely with Student Support Services in order to determine, establish, and implement learning support and intervention for eligible students.
  • In collaboration with the Secondary Principal, develop, maintain, and improve K-12 curriculum alignment through vertical and horizontal integration across subject areas and grades, making use of teacher focus groups, curriculum maps, and adopted academic standards. 
  • Lead the process to develop and analyze student academic and testing data for improvement of instructional practices and curriculum implementation.
  • Lead an annual process of curriculum review according to the adopted WCA review schedule, in cooperation with the Secondary Principal.
  • Work in conjunction with the Administrative team (Head of School, Student Support
  • Services, Secondary Principal) to plan and administrate professional development opportunities for faculty.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • A committed Christian and active member of a local, gospel preaching, Bible believing church that aligns with our Statement of Faith.
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or administration with classroom teaching experience.
  • Master’s degree or significant coursework and experience in education or administration.
  • Experience in curriculum development and instructional leadership.
    Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Full agreement and support of WCA’s statement of faith.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Strong interpersonal relationship and people skills
  • Willing to pursue additional training and career development as necessary.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and problem-solving skills.
  • Display excellence in organization and communication skills

Elementary Teacher

Washtenaw Christian Academy is seeking an elementary teacher who excels at delivering high-quality instruction.  The ideal candidate will have a love for God, a love for children, and a desire to train students to love learning and to think critically.

Educational requirements include a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education with a state teaching certificate preferred. Christian commitment is a must.

Candidate should demonstrate the ability to develop and implement effective lesson plans, ability to manage a classroom with grace, and relate well to students, colleagues, and parents.
